I developed my love for horticulture while in high school working at Mid-South Nursery and Garden Center, only a stones throw from the birthplace of Elvis Presley, in Tupelo, MS. My job was to follow “Mr. Witt” around, pull plants out for customers and load them in their vehicles. I picked up on plant names and usage very quickly and before long Mr. Witt allowed me to wait on customers by myself.
I decided at that time I wanted to be in the green industry so I headed to MS State University where I received a BS degree in Ornamental Horticulture. Following graduation I founded and operated a lawn care company for several years in Jackson, MS, until I was called to return to MSU, as Campus Horticulturist, Golf Course Superintendent, and a turfgrass instructor in the agronomy department.
Following my time at MS State I returned to the private sector where I had the opportunity to oversee the development of the landscape installation and golf course construction of FarmLinks at Pursell Farms, which is now the number one public golf course in Alabama.
After FarmLinks was opened, MS State University recruited me back as Director of Campus Landscape where I worked with a team of students and staff to design and build “The Junction”, a premier gathering site for students and alumni for game day festivities.
I have decided to return to my first love, the lawn care industry, by founding TurfPro Unlimited, LLP. My 30+ years of experience in the golf and landscape industry give me the knowledge necessary to allow families and businesses to delight in the beauty of their properties without worrying about prickly weeds, fire ants, and disease spreading mosquitos.
